Barangay VIsta Alegre was branded as the "Sweet Farm" because of its vast plantation of sugarcane, which is their main product.

INTRODUCTION
Vista Alegre is bounded the North East by Lupit River or Ngalan River, Brgy. Estefania and Granada, on South East by the Banga-banga Creek, Magsungay River, Canumayan Creek, Barangay Granada and Bacolod-Murcia Municipal boundary, on South West by Magsungay River, Brgy. Mansilingan, Brgy. Taculing and on the North West by the Lupit River and Barangay Villamonte.
The barangay comprises about 14 Puroks, namely Purok Katilingban, Kawayanan, Kabulakan, Kabuguason, Kabutongan, Inday Oya, Star Apple, Kalubihan, Kasantolan I&2, Angela Hills, Busay, Don Fernando Gonzaga and Purok Garcia and each Purok contains the bulk of population.
The total land area of Vista Alegre is about 1,667.443 has privately owned by different landowners. Its major plantation is sugar- producing area. Because of its vast sugarcane plantation, Vista Alegre was branded as � The Sweet farm� of Bacolod City. It was been created through City Ordinance no. 108, series of 1962 as one of the chartered Barangay of Bacolod City.
At present, Vista Alegre has a total population of 8,492 based on the population survey 2000 census.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
It was the time of the Spanish regime, that Vista Alegre was just a barrio. It is just a sort of compound of the hacienda owned by Don Ignacio Coscolluela, comprising more than two hundred houses. Time passes by, the hacienda was divided among several persons, either by inheritance or by purchase which result to number of decrease in household in the compound.
There was no record as to who was the first teniente del barrio of Vista Alegre. Being owned by Don Ignacio Coscolluela, it was presumed that he was the representative of the barrio to the municipality of Bacolod.
As to its origin, Vista Alegre got its name from the merry-making celebrated by the folks and the beautiful view of the surroundings, which you could view, the sea form its wide fields. In other words, Vista Alegre means �Happy View�.
In early 1950�s, the owner of the haciendas of Vista Alegre are Don Ramon B. Lacson, Don Teofilo Gensoli,Sr. Don Leon Vivero and Don German Gaston.
It was in November 23 to December 1957 when the first barrio festival was celebrated. This was under the leadership of Barrio Lieutenant Don Leon Vivero with the cooperation of Mr. Ramon Lacson, Mr. Teofilo Gensoli, Mr.German Gaston, Mr. Ramon Ceraspe as the PTA President and other civic-minded members as well as the teachers and students. The objectives of the affair were:1) To raise fund for the improvement of the school and barrio in general; 2) To give barrio folks an opportunity for fellowship and a chance to enjoy themselves.
The elected officers of District Council of Vista Alegre were:

In May 1962, Barangay Vista Alegre was created through City Ordinance no. 108, as one of the chartered Barangay of Bacolod City. The first Barangay captain was the late Ramon Ceraspe, Sr., succeeded by Barangay Captain Loreto Peornato.
In 1982 to present, Hon. Eduado C. Galona, Sr. is the Barangay Captain of Barangay Vista Alegre. Through his undying and dedicated service, Barangay Vista Alegre improved and developed. Barangay Vista Alegre was branded as � The Sweet Farm� of Bacolod City.

POPULATION
The total population of Barangay Vista Alegre is 8,492 based on the population survey last 2000 census .The number of household is 1,706 and it has a total land area of 1,667.443 hectares.
Hiligaynon or Ilonggo is the main language of the residents. Cebuano is also spoken especially by the migratory workers from: Cebu and other part of Negros Occidental and Oriental.
Roman Catholic is the leading religion in Barangay Vista Alegre which comprise 90% of the population and 10% to other religion.
